Hey, I've just been offered a job in Barboursville, Virginia.. I was wondering what you know about this town, and also what other state or towns are a great place for an Aussie to go work for a while.. it will be myself and a friend together and we would like to experience a few different parts of America, but we would like a place where people are friendly and where it is most safe.. we would like somewhere that is really hot in summer and snows in winter... IT Would mean a lot to us if you could share with us Aussie girls what is the best places to go in America.. also if you could tell us about these places a little, like what there like, the people, what are the whether seasons like, snow, rain, flood, storms, tornadoes..etc..

It would have to depend on your background, do you come from a cosmopolitan city like Sydney, or do you live in a place like a ranch in the U.S., and do you want something very different or if you prefer an environment very like home. The northern half of the U.S. is hot in summer and snows in winter. Some of the big cities in the north worth visiting are Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston and New York City. All the tornadoes, hurricanes happen mostly in the South.

Minnesota is definitely a great place. The people here are very friendly. Sometimes a little naive lol but friendly regardless.

Minnesota gets the full range of the four seasons. Warm summers (over ten thousand lakes and tons of campgrounds to enjoy those summers at also), crisp autumn with AMAZING nature when the leaves change, frigid winter with tons of snow (great place for ice fishing, ice skating, skiing), and wonderfully colorful springs.

We don't get much in the way of flooding or storms (a bit here and there, but nothing major).

Another little perk is that it seems that prices are cheaper in Minnesota than they are in a lot of other places. Maybe it's just me and the places I go, but such has been my experience

The job opportinities here are great, also. It seems that no matter what your field is, you can work in it here. But it's also a wonderful place to discover new interests that you might not have thought of before. I always thought I'd want a career in architecture and after living in Minnesota so long, I now work in a field where I protect wild bears, it's amazing how much a bit of exploration around here can change your priorities lol.

If you do come for awhile, make sure to check out the Mall of America in Burnsville if you're in southern Minnesota or the Vince Schulte Preserve in Orr if you're in northern Minnesota (amazing place to watch wild bears up close).

I hope this was somewhat helpful for you. And enjoy your time in America no matter where you go.

I've been to most of the states here in the US cause i love to travel and see new places my dream has always been to go to Australia. But getting back on your subject.
North virgina is beautiful cause of the smokey mountains, Kentucky is nice specially if your into horses. The people in both those places are very nice at least they were when i was there. New York is a place everyone should see although you must be carefull going into the city and you should have a guide that knows where to go and where not to go you have your friendly people and your snobs mixed together there..lol.. There is a lot to see in chicago but i wouldnt recommend going there..lol. I personly dont like the heavy fast moving traffic and the violence there. Minnasota has very nice sceanery and friendly people there is quite a bit to do there like the mall of america, renesance feistivalle, and ofcourse the state fair. for the warmer weather in winter time i would head to florida or california or las vegas navada lots to do in all those places and the people seemed very friendly. North dakota has very nice people but its flat..lol..i live here so i know best..lol. and there isnt a whole lot to do here, for summer south dakota is nice you have mount rushmore, and lots of tourist things to do..lol. I have yet to go to colorado but i hear its very nice there and beautiful not so sure how the people there are? and im not so sure of the things to do there either besides sight seeing..lol. Montana is nice to see also you have mountains and nice friendly people there. Iowa is an okay state friendly people and some things to do.Tennisee is beautiful nice landscape and friendly people as well. Pretty much every state has friendly people for the most part and every state has snobs as well depending on where in that state you go. Vermont is also very pretty friendly people as well.
I guess everyone has their own opinon on different states and what they like and dont like about them..the only thing i can tell you is to look up some states and see what they have to offer see if anything would interest you and go for it that way you can have your own opinon.
good luck and welcome to the USA!

Alberta is beautiful, although its a province instead. The equivalent perhaps would be Montana. Ontario is safe too, with all four seasons, from over + 40 C in summer to - 40 in winter, and lots of snow sometimes too, you can get it all in Ontario, and Quebec is beautiful too, and people are freindly if you are respectful to them and at least try to say some things in French, although in Ontario and Quebec, some mild winter weather would be freezing rain Yuck ! Alberta is beautiful in all seasons, prairies on one side and mountains on the other, Its ok there ! Go Alberta Canada or Montana USA ! You sure can find horse jobs there. Also check Kentucky! Awesome place for horse enthusiasts! Enjoy the best Bourbon while you're there too ;)

Barboursville is an unincorporated community in Orange County, Virginia, USA. Barboursville is famous for being the birthplace of the renowned American military commander and President, Zachary Taylor. It is also famous for the location of the home of James Barbour, former colonial era governor of Virginia. The ruins of his home are now on land owned by one of the Piedmont regions more popular wineries, Barboursville Vineyards. The Barbour home was designed by Thomas Jefferson and featured an octagonal room. I think you should give America a try.

Its hot everywhere in the summer, It gets so hot in Iowa that you can see your breath in late summer. Northern Nevada has mountains for skiing and snowmobiling in the winter and lakes for swimming in the summer. All night bars, shopping and gaming. Virginia has toll roads. But it is closer to Atlantic City.

Southern California is definitely the best, but it is super expensive to live here. Best to check your budget and decide where you can live before you decide where you want to live.
