A wonderful cat named Rex. He was a friendly stray my parents adopted before I was born. He was a really nice cat who tolerated my toddler years of pulling his tail and chasing him around, with him not laying a single scratch on me. I used to make him little paper hats that he'd wear without hissing, and he let me do lots of things to him that most cats would never tolerate. When I was older and nicer to Rex, we became great buddies and he'd sleep on my bed every night. He died when I was ten, about four and a half years ago, and he will always be in my memory as my feline big brother. (Sniff sniff...)

My first pet was a goldfish I named Mrs. Goldman, after my teacher at the time. It's a short story ... when Mrs. Goldman died, I flushed her down the toilet.
