The Brain actually does work. If it does work it means it uses energy. So for a brain to function properly it must have a good supply of energy from the body.
Since the brain is the control system that is used to maintain life's function ,it must work together as a Unit. So the whole brain is used to perform its functions.
However there have been case where almost half the individual's brain was surgically removed and the remaining still functioned.
Nevertheless life inside the brain that gives you the sense of being which is the Essence of Life is not scientifically understood.

On my opinion: every single-millimeter of it is “actually” used! Because if only 10% or partly is used, then what is the rest of 90% used for? Decoration? And if partially used, something could be wrong with it or worse you could be dead. Although I think the human brain has specific functions located in particular parts. The brain triggers those specific locations to activate, allowing you to do a particular activity or task you want (walking, speech, motor, etc.). When you’re done or not doing it, the brain inactivates or shuts those parts off until you try to do it again (Try thinking it as a “in Energy Saving mode”). Showing the brain partially active in a MIR, but it doesn’t mean the human brain is partially working and the rest is not.

The mature human brain is 3 lbs, and 0 lbs of my brain works. I think with an organ in my pants usually (which is around 9 lbs), and when I don't think with that part of my body, I'm just wandering around helpless.
On a real note, i'm actually studying the brain right now, and anyone who says that only 10% of the brain works is actually going by really old findings, that is not true, at all.

::::
Although folklore would have it that about 90% of the human brain is dormant, this has proven scientifically unfounded; researchers until the mid 1990s focused on only a small portion of the brain in efforts to understand its computational capacity.
Grey matter, the thin layer of cells covering the cerebrum, was believed by most scholars to be the primary center of cognitive and conscious processing. White matter, the mass of glial cells that support the cerebral grey matter, was assumed to primarily provide nourishment, physical support, and connective pathways for the more functional cells on the cerebral surface. But research fueled by the interest of Dr. Marian Diamond in the glial structure of Albert Einstein's brain led to a line of research that offered strong evidence that glial cells serve a computational role beyond merely transmitting processed signals between more functional parts of the brain. In 2004, Scientific American published an article suggesting scientists in the early 21st century are only beginning to study the "other half of the brain."

A brain has a processing capacity of 100 trillion instructions per second, and is likely to be surpassed by computers by 2030.

Your question can be interpreted in two ways. How much of our brain is used to reason, and how much is used, period.
Actually, most of the brain is used for basic functions such as breathing, heart pumping, digestion and stuff. So if your question is really "how much human brain actually works" then I'd have to say all of it.
Although I believe that as the intelligence goes, we probably not using it at it's full capabilities. We could do more with what we have I guess.

By reading the questions asked here, I can see that the amount of brain engaged at any time is highly variable.
No one does everything that they are capable of doing all at once, so a brain is used sections at a time as needed.

The most successful people use lots of other peoples brains to help achieve their goals. So a good working brain can use many thousands of percent!

Technically, all of the brain works and functions, but we are only in voluntary control of about 10% of it. There are 2 halves to the brain: the right and left. The left functions more in artistic people, the right is the mathematical and technical side.
