Let's say that you were in a store and they had internet discs displayed, AOL, Net Scape and so on and they were free for the taking. Let's say that you took one of those discs and on the disc it said one month free and after that, 6.95 per month for 12 months, No credit card required. You stick that disc into your computer and for some reason it wouldn't work so you called the company and they asked you for your credit card number anyway so in trust, you give it to them. They take money right away and then the next month, they take 23.00 off of it. You call them up and they said that you had a 9.95 contract with them and they were unable to colect. This is a prepaid credit card so you know they are lying. Is this false advertisement and what would you do?

I would fight it because they lied.

Fight it and call your credit card company and let them know. You may also report them to the Better Business Bureau. There are laws to protect you against this sort of practice. Your credit card company may require proof that they stated this, but in the end, you will win.

You may also want to move this question out of the GLBT area and into one of commerce or scams.

The best of luck to you.

Call the credit card company. Tell them exactly what has happened and that you want to dispute the charge. They will help you sort it out.

I would fight it. Find out the name of the person in charge and send them a letter with all of the details and ask for a refund.
