So christmas and easter have pagan origins... o.k. one problem... christians are not supposed to be pagan! So what do we do?
(A) Go to the Jewish Folks , sweetly and politely ask them on how to celebrate Passover and the Saturday Shabbats (sabbtath) { Jesus was a Jew and he celebrated the sabbath and Passover. Why can't we?!} and if we could adopt them as our own.
(B) If the Jewish folks reply," Heck no! We don't want to share anything with you christians! Get your own celebrations and festivals! and so we go away and somehow make up our own. { Hey, we might actually make up something good}
(C) decide" Hey since Christmas and Easter are pagan, why don't just stop celebrating these holidays and declare ourselves as the only religion of earth that doesn't have its own festival and holidays and celebrate anything we want to at anytime!

O. K. Let me change my earilier statement little bit. If it looked as if i was saying that christians are pagan because they celebrate Christmas or Easter, Forgive me that is not what i originally meant to say. I was trying to say that Christians, who are not recognized as pagans, have pagan holidays. Pagans are the ones who should have and do have pagan holidays, not christians. So, my whole question is why do Christians have holidays which are pagan in origin?

Many of the customs were borrowed from Pagan traditions. It does not mean Xmas and Easter are pagan holidays. Where did you get this stuff??

You can celebrate anything you want. It's a free country.

Christians did use the Jewish holidays. The Judea-Christian means just that. Why do you think our Winter and Spring celebrations are so similar? What should you do? Have faith. The celebrations of Christmas and Easter are special on so many levels. They bring families together, they are points of spiritual rebirth throughout the year, and they are a part of our Judea-Christian traditions.

Whoa, Lady. If you are that upset about pagan origins becoming Christian Holidays, become a Jehovah's Witness. This is part of their belief. But before you dive off the deep end, consider the following:.

First off, Pagan is a term used for all religions (or not) which are neither Jewish or Christian. Christ himself created Easter & Communion at the last supper; are you saying Jesus was a pagan? We do not even know the year of Jesus' birth due to an error in the Gregorian calendar & a conflicted historical record. He declared Church itself evil when He said all government is evil (all organized religions govern its people) He also had a following without a building set aside for worship. The idea of life after death came exclusively from the Egyptians, a Pagan group. Yada, yada, yada . . ....

Option A: We don't need Jewish permission.to practice their rituals.
Option B: Ever hear of Messianic Jews? B'ahai? Luther? Calvin?
Option C: HUH?
Option 4: And what it all boils down to is with about 6.3 billion people on this planet, there are about 6.3 billion different personal religions. Each of us chooses our own personal faith anyway, so the first 3 options are all part of the 4th one. A no brainer choice, don't you agree?

Sometimes I wish the option to clarify did not exist on this site...
What this all boils down to is, "Who died & named you God" Every person who thinks they know the "absolute truth" of any matter is wrong & a hypocrite playing God. The more someone tries to describe God, the more they are limiting God in their own mind. No one has the right to tell others what to believe, limit what rituals they can or cannot practice, or even tell them their faith is wrong. And anyone who gives over those rights to someone else deserves to be a slave

Look, I don't care if part of your religion involves cannibalism, as long as it is practiced only among like minded cannibals & does not involve non believers. We are all hypocrites: we all do everything I have just mentioned. I just tried to influence your mind; now it is up to you to take what you want & leave the rest. I resign from playing God. The pay sucks & the hours are miserable. My God forgives my mistakes. I hope yours does also.

I don't necessarily celebrate Christmas nor easter the way the world wants us to. I don't put up trees nor decorate with ornaments. I don't hide colored eggs for kids to find. My reason for doing this is because the world pretends these holidays stem from Christianity, but they deny the very person these celebrations are all about.

Though it's good to remember Christ's birth, it's more important to remember His death and resurrection. And I don't need ornaments, gifts, chocolates or twinkling lights to do that.

I do not want to speak for other nationalities but I am a Sicilian American Catholic. Catholicism grew out of a mixture of ancient Roman Pagan traditions and Christianity after the resurrection of Christ. Pagan traditions are so interwoven they can not be removed from Catholic ones . In history Sicily was occupied by every major civilization Germans, Turks ,Greeks, Arabs, Romans etc. all of those cultures are represented in Sicilian culture and many of them predated the dominance of Christianity. My Joke is that my ancestors did not know where paganism ended and Catholicism began. This is why I am so confused spiritually and its not my fault. My Irish friends feel the same way.

If you are not Christian! you do nothing. Let those who like to practice those holiday celebrate them as they please. Live and let Live. Why must we analyze and dissect everything to death! We all have one thing or another taken from another cultures and practice. For goodness sake let it be.

Did you know in Iran they color eggs and make breads like the Christians do on Easter! where do you think they go that from the Pagan or the Christians!? and does it matter to the person who is enjoying that holiday!? I hope it doesn't. Let people be happy, and let them celebrate the way they wish. After all, it suppose to represent a happy occasion not a day to pick on others.
