2 cars in '68 probably qualify as sold by the dealer yet all stock and fastest car 0-60mph. although these cars vin numbers weren't numbers but spelt out the word "DRAGSTER". these 2 cars are '68 hemi dodge dart and '68 hemi barracuda. the '69 charger with the hemi were damn fast but too heavy compared to these 2 cars. MoPars RULE!!!!!! these 2 cars were faster than the ford's 427 shelby cobra.

You didn't say whether you meant street machines or include dragstrip and track cars. There was a type of drag racer called a Funny Car, and the best time ever turned in on the 1/4 mile was by a FC with a Chevy Nova body and a 427 chevy engine with a Root blower.
If you had asked about "zero-to-sixty" in those circles they would have called you a pus.sy and kicked you around some.
That was an official figure. The debate about street machines continues to this day, and you can get your derriere kicked tonight in the right bar over it. The Dodge Charger w/Hemi engine was a very strong contender. Find the old movie "Vanishing Point."
There were others. Try a Ford Fairlane with the 428. The Chevy super sport Chevelle with the 427 was hard to get in front of. Many other contenders.

Don't know, but I do know this 1966 Bonneville 2+2 0-60 in 3.9 sec. with a 421 eng 4spd 456 rear end. In 1967 a similar car by Pontiac did the same thing with the same engine. An AC Cobra 427 did 0-100 back down to zero in 14 sec
