Let the length of side "b" be x ft.
Therefore side a=2x and side c=2x+3
According to the problem,
x+2x+2x+3=93
=>5x+3=93
=>5x=93-3=90
=>x=90/5=18
Therefore.side a=2X18=36 and side c=36+3=39
Answer a=36ft. b=18 ft and c=39 ft

Let's say the side b is "x"

93 = 2x + x + 2x + 3

first 2x represents side a which is twice as long as side b (2x)
the second x represents side b (x)
side c is 3 feet (+3) longer than side a (2x)

93 = 2x + x + 2x + 3
93 - 3 = 2x + x + 2x
90 = 5x
x = 18

Now, a is 2x so 2 * 18 = 36
b is just x so 18
c is twice as long as a + 3 so 36 + 3 = 39

add them all up and you get 36 + 18 + 39 = 93 which matches the original statement.

A key to doing this kind of word problem is, take the original statement and read word at a time, and turn them into formulas.

Side a is twice as side b,
so a = 2b or b=a/2 .........(1)

Side c is 3ft longer than side a,
so c = a + 3 ..........(2)

Perimeter is 93 ft
a+b+c=93
or a + a/2 + a+3 = 93 (substituting values from (1) and (2) above)

2a + a/2 = 90
4a + a = 180
5a = 180
a=180/5

==> a=36 ft

a=2b,

==> b=a/2= 18 ft

c = a+3

==> c=39 ft

Start by writing equations for the information you are given.

1) a + b + c = 93

2) a = 2b

3) a + 3 = c

Start solving for a and c in terms of b.

Since a = 2b, then equation #3 can be written as: 2b + 3 = c

Because a = 2b and c = 2b + 3 you can now substitute these equivalents into equation #1: (2b) + b + (2b + 3) = 93 and solve for b:

5b + 3 = 93

5b = 90

b = 18

Since a = 2b, a = 36

Since a + 3 = c, c = 36 + 3 = 39

Checking our work: 36 + 18 + 39 = 93!

Best wishes and good luck.

P = A + B + C = 93
A = 2B or B = (1/2)A
C = 3 + A

use substitution
Since A is in all equations, change B and C in terms of A

A + (1/2)A + (3+A) = 93
(1.5)A + 3 + A = 93
(2.5)A = 90

A = 36 ft.
B = (1/2)A = 18 ft.
C = 3 + A = 39 ft.

A+B+C=93 so the answer is correct.

Or this way B=X

X+2X+(2X+3)=93 add all X's

5X+3=93 add -3 to each side

5X=90 divide each side by 5

X(really B)=18 so a=36 and c=39

I like my way, but the other guy's way is good too. That is what is fun about math; the many ways to get the answer.

93=2X+X+(X+3)

When you find X, you plug it in for each side.
That's my best guess, someone else might be able to help you more than I can.
