I just had my first baby 3 months ago and I had her by c section. I was wondering when and if I decided to have another baby if I have another c section do I have to pick the day and have it scheduled or can they just perform it after I go in to labor. I really don't want to pick the date I want it to be "a suprise"?

I bet the answer to this question will depend on how comfortable your doctor is letting you go into labor before doing the surgery. I wouldn't really see a problem with waiting until you go into natural labor, unless he/she was worried about the labor going so fast they couldn't get the surgery done. Also, you might ask, there are some places that will allow you to have vaginal birth after a c-section (they don't here, but across the pass and up the road 45 mins, they will).

You don't have to pick a day in most cases. You should wait 2 to 3 years for another baby if you want to try for a vaginal birth next time. Many women have been able to have a natural birth after having a c section. You may want to pick the day when the time comes. Don't close your mind to the idea. If you want to be surprised don't find out the sex of the baby and let that be the surprise instead.

Well-I am pregnant-26 weeks-with my 2nd baby and I too had a c-section-not planned-with my first. This time around they are making me pick a day and time-kinda like signing up for a class.Mine is going to be on February 15th at 7:30 am.They are also taking me a week before my due date which is the 22nd because they do not want me to go into labor.

you need to find a good doctor that supports something known as a VBAC (vaginal birth after c). most women are able to birth naturally after a c-section as long as they have a supportive doctor other wise, if a reschedule needs to be made then they will pick a day based on how far along you are when they have time and such. they don't do it after you go into labor as they would rather be prepared.

It is a much easier recovery if it is sceduled and done prior to the onset of labor. Also many Obs will not because they want to schedule the OR if everyon did as they were in labor there could be a back up to the OR

usually if you are expecting to have another c-section it is scheduled, are you sure that you have to have one i know that if you have a bikini cut (cut under your panty line) you may be able to have a natural delivery like me. It also depends on why you had a c-section for exapmle with mine the baby was stuck and had to be removed but there was no complications. Id ask your doctor about this because if you can have your baby naturally its way safer there are many problems that can occur with multiple c-sections.

I don't know the answer to your question, I would assume you could labor first... but then again I think doctors tend to try to control and schedule things as much as possible, so they might like you to plan the date.

You know, it's fairly common to try for a vaginal birth after a cesarean (VBAC). I want to encourage you to look into it! ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) is a great resource, and they have local chapters all around.

Usually they will pick a day for you. You don't want to go into labor before you go in.

interesting. they prefer to schedule it for probably numerous reasons....like him being there and not on vacation. or also, just him having a good nights rest! if you can't handle that..then i think i would then tell them you want to try to deliver vaginally....and wing it from there. you could also go in labor before the day you pick anyhow....that's happened to my friend.

you could always try to have a vbac that is the only way it's going to be a surprise. because if you say that you want a c-section they will schedule it
