I'm an African American. I live in a mid-income neighborhood, nice 3 story homes.. 2 car garages.. 4 bedrooms houses ect. I live in the suburbs (with a majority of white people) although it's a very diverse town but what i don't seem to understand is why most hispanics and african americans put on a whole "ghetto gangsta" act when they are from the suburbs? they're not fooling anyone...
I think they should be proud to live in a privelaged neighborhood.
The only reason "ghetto" people act ghetto is because they are ghetto.. they're not pretending to be.. does that make any sense?

Does this happen in anyone elses neighborhoods (Suburban neighborhoods)
And why do you think people do this?

Yes I completely understand waht you're saying. I moved to this area about a year ago and I hate it. I'ts full of Asian people. That's not why i hate it though, I'm Asian myself. But everyone tries to act all hard and stuff. It makes me really mad because this new area compared to the previous area i lived is much more high class. My previous home wasn't the ghetto or anything but it's no where compared to where I'm living now.

EXACTLY. Try seeing a bunch of Korean people act all ghetto. They are not fooling anyone..! Especially when the school I go to is supposedly on the Top 10 list of schools in the Bay Area.

I don't know why people act fake, from the way the dress to the way they talk.. and their dumb made up stories about how their life is tough when they live in a high class area. I'm not saying I know any more than they do, cause I don't. I've never lived in a ghetto or anything, but my previous home was alot poorer. Even they didn't try to act as hard. I heard about the city I'm living in from other people before i moved here, and i had high expectations. But I was wrong and all I see are wannabes.

I really don't know why some people are this way. It makes me mad. I just wanna throw them in a real ghetto and watch what happens then.

Dude, I totally get where you are coming from. Poor little rich kids..not sooo rich, but its all the same. Ive heard some talk about not forgetting where they came from, their roots. Like their parents were crips from the hood or something.

But the thing is, their parents, more than likely, didnt get a 3 story house by being a gangster. Their parents are probally educated people, raised by parents who were probally educated or just really worked hard to get their kids the things they didnt have oppurtuinties for....

Maybe this is this generation;s rebellion towards thier parents, like hippies in the 60's, but the suburbian gangsta's dont have a war to protest and not shave for...

Too bad they cant represent a smart, educated, well bred and mannered society and be such clowns.

People that are ghetto are really ghetto..the suburb ghetto kids wouldnt be able to survive a poverty, or below poverty level living, no steady money, nothing in the fridge, sharing rooms, beds with relatives, roaches, people robbing you...just sad, sad living. No one ghetto, real ghetto would represent like that if they got out. Its really a scary place to live in Im sure, those kids dont even know whats up.

I used to live in the ghetto and I was the only white kid on the street for a long time. I lived most of my life there (i'm 13) and I just moved to the country 1 year ago. But I remember there was this one white family that moved to my street and they used to live in the suberbs. But anyways this kid Christian (that was from the white family that just moved in) always tried to act ghetto and he was a real jerk, he would steel stuff from people just to try to prove that he was a "gangsta" too all the real ghetto kids. But everyone knew that he was such a fake, real ghangta's are in gangs hence gang ster. But I think that now that i moved to the country there are almost no black people and theres tons of wiggers (defintion white kid that trys to act black). I think that this dude christian that i was talking about was just trying to fit in. And all the wiggers in the suberbs or country just get the wrong inprestion from rap videos and other media, that being a gangsta is cool. Therefore they try to act ghansta thinking that peole will think that they are cool just because the TV says so. Being in a sucks, this one latino kid I knew had a big brother who was in a gang, and he wanted quit the gang , but he had to fight 10 people with only a medel flag pole for a weopon before he was aloud to quit the gang. He got beat up pretty bad..

This happens in my high school all the time! and i just dont seem to get it. I go to school in a very ritzy area that is prodominatly white. Many of the students at my school act ghetto and I dont understand why. I just wonder if they think it looks "cool" because it doesnt. It seems as if they think that acting ghetto will give them a tuff appearence and reputation... but I dont think so.

I think guys see it as an expression of masculinity and toughness. "Ghetto" is what is cool right now, what is supposed to be more authentic and genuine than anything else because you are "keepin' it real." Somehow being a successful middle class person is considered fake, ingenuine, a sellout. Men want to be considered tough and cool, the kind of man other men respect and women love, etc. White guys act "ghetto", too. Wangstas.

i live in suburban cleveland and i see this a lot- a bunch of privaleged white kids pretending they live inter-city. it's a little pathetic, but it's an incredible improvement from the 50's no?

In general I believe that people want to be able to relate to each other. Someone might want to act "ghetto";but, definitely not be "ghetto".
