Hang them outside unless it's raining. They smell so much better and they don't get beat apart by tumbling in a machine.
As a side benefit, your dryer will last a long time. The only reason I got rid of out 1947 model was because it needed a new gasket and they just were not available.
Got the new one 10 years ago.
