The electoral college was a stroke of genius that our founding fathers gave us to keep the political process in the hands of the people. Eliminate the electoral college, every election will become civil war. Popular vote has NEVER elected a President in American history. And it shouldn't. Without the electoral college fraud will be the only way to win. Example...If popular vote was the only way, the candidates would only need to win 14 cities and they win the Presidency. What happens to all the others votes? Do they not count? What if they chose the other guy, are they denied a voice because it has to be by ignorant popular votes? The average voter doesn't know the people they vote for, why allow ignorance to control the country. If Gore won he would have been impeached for truly stealing the election. As I said, the electoral college was a genius invention that keeps the states even in most events during elections. Each state has a voice, every vote counts. Without the electoral college....not every vote will be counted or considered even necessary to look at.

It would eliminate some problems, but create others. In a close election we would have to recount the entire country. Imagine FL 2000 multiplied by 50.
Candidates would totally ignore small states. There would be huge "get out the vote" campaigns in big states. I cam see lots of room for even more corruption.

Which popular college are you asking about? Harvard is pretty popular. So is USC. But I think people should vote for the president.

Yes, it is in our Constitution. If Americans want it changed, they must go through the amendment process.
