Why ? Neither side will ever integrate with the other. NI wishes to stay British and Southern Ireland will never forgive GB for Cromwell and the appalling cruelty suffered at his hands during the many and prolonged wars inflicted since Queen Elizabeth 1st reign. You must remember that GB is so hated that Southern Ireland actually raised a Company of soldiers to fight with Germany against the British in the second World War. The IRA carried on the tradition and blew up everybody not Southern Irish. So leave them to their own devices, they can do without GB and GB can manage without them.

It is probably because your accent sounds the same to them all.
I have lived abroad for 30+ years and in that time I have been asked precisely twice if I come from England ( yes I do),London ? At least half a dozen times . And America? Almost every time.
Do I sound like an American to a European? No I don't, and certainly not to an American .
Does it tick me off? Yes big time, but hey that's life! I can't change it so I worry about the big things!
