Kim, I teach at a public university and I am very demanding of my teacher education students. It's not meanness, it's not evil intent; instead, we just want them to work as hard as they are able, to soak up as much as they can, in preparation for life. You see, you are about to go into the big-bad world in a couple of years -- wouldn't you rather apply yourself now so you will have success then?

My students know I am hard. They have commented, and I readily acknowledge, that I am the toughest of all the teachers. However, that said, they say how much more prepared they will be when they leave due to this high level of expectations. Instead of thinking the teachers are out to get you, couldn't you think they are just trying to get you as prepared as possible? And be grateful? If they aren't going to push you, who will?

Good luck -- and I hope it makes sense to you!

All schools are under pressure to publish the results of testing to the community now. If a school doesn't meet standards, then parents won't send their kids there(private) or demand higher performance (public)
Teachers have to show at least a year's growth for the majority of the students. Even if there are delayed or lazy kids in the class or kids who never come to school. If you don't then you are put on an improvement plan where the principal is in your face all the time demanding explanation as why your kids aren't doing as well as the teacher down the hall.
Teachers want kids to do what they are suppose to do- work and learn.

Yes they are! Most of them just sit at home at night figuring what they can do the next day to mess with their students minds. If that is what you want to believe, I can go along with it. Lots of kids feel they are being picked on, or singled out. While in school, try concentrating on nothing but school. This may help you somewhat. Most kids think outside of school while there, that would be an automatic distraction. Could be why you think the way you do about school. Try what I suggested, live it, practice it for a while, and see if helps you. Good luck.

Let me just say that I know there are teachers out there who seem to not like their job, or their students, but myself as a teacher, I only want to see every single one of my student be successful, not only in my class, but in life. So if it seems that teachers are being tough, it's only because (most of them) are doing their best to prepare students for real life.

No, teachers are not out to get you. Although it may seem like they are, they are doing their "job", and for a lot of them, what they like/love to do. If you ever spend some one on one with a teacher for extra help, or some project, you'll see a different side to them. Just think, they are a person like you, and after school, they to have a life of their own.

sorry to sound like a parent... but they usually bring out the best in you . When much is required.. much is given. Embrace your hard work and excel... make that teacher proud.
