The precursor of the U.N. was the brain child of President Wilson(The League of Nations). The U.S. never joined it though. After WW2 the U.S.A. was the driving force behind the U.N. Now Americans don't appreciate that it is your baby. It's Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the basis of avoiding war through preventing war yet Republicans think its a socialist manifesto. What changed? P.S. I'm Canadian.

You are right. What can I say? Our president is an idiot.

He could have kept UN Peacekeepers in Iraq and avoided the war but, NO, he knows better.

Ok a Canadian asked the question, but fails to state how lester b. pearson, who eventually became Prime minister, and the father of peacekeepping (human sheild), was a very strong integral part of the creation of the U.N.. He was behind the scenes. Fact is America may have played a big part but it is not their baby, For if it was they wold have abolished it by now for its lack of spine.

Why do you think canadian soldiers feel good about the deployment in Afghanistan, they can fight back, which as peacekeepers they were just human targets.

More canadians have died as peacekeepers than in afghanistan.

The U.N. has to go.

The UN has changed dramatically since it's founding. It is controlled by tin horn dictators with little or no popular following. It is as useless as udders on a bull & should be tossed on the scrapheap of history.
