Call apple, your ipod might have a virus.

You're "friend" more than likely disconnected the iPod when it was flashing the DO NOT DISCONNECT screen while it was trying to update and corrupted your files.

You'll have to do the 5 R's listed on apple's site to restore the iPod to its default settings and then put your songs on it all over again.

Don't let your friend handle the iPod again, he or she obviously has no clue what they are doing.

Did you try resetting the ipod? You click the hold button on, then off and hold the center button and the menu button down until the apple icon comes on. Try the link to apple where it gives you step by step what to do...you can re-download the software on your Ipod.

If that doesn't work, I would bring my ipod to an apple store. Hope this helps!

the easiest thing to do is RESTORE your ipod... when you got it, it shopuld have come with an ipod updater. if not you should download the newest version of itunes. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
it has a updater/restore feature built in
