In the morning, I wash my face with soap, and use a Clean&Clear acne cleanser but I also have 2 St. Ive's apricot scrubs: one is Acne Free Blemish & Blackhead control and the other is a Apricot Invigorating scrub. Am I allowed to use one of those after the Clean&Clean scrub or not and if so, which one. also have ProActiv for my acne which I use at night. my problem is that I have 2 many products and not sure which ones to use and when. I hear that your supposed to use cleansers and follow by moisturizers or something. I'm just confused. After I use the clean&clear acne cleanser, I just put my makeup on, come back from school 7 hours later and my face is EXTREMLEY OILY &ICKY!! So I wash my face with a Clinque Wash-away gel cleanser to remove my makeup and usually, I'll use one of my apricot scrubs following my ProActiv if I'm going to be home all day. If not, then I use my ProActive at night. I need help to when and when not to use my products. Which cleansers and mositerizers?

I KNOW YOUR PROBLEM WELL! My face produces enough oil in one day to fuel a third world country for months. It's such a hassle to keep under control, isn't it? That being said, I don't think Clean & Clear and St. Ives is going to do much at all. It's probably making the problem worse because those kinds of products contain harsh cleansers. When your face is being stripped of the oil it DOES need, it's going to retaliate and produce even more. Your pores are probably going nuts.

For skin that oily you need something a bit more expensive but worth it. (I tried ProActiv myself and it amounted to crap.) I'm not going to lie and say I've found what works and solves everything - because I haven't unfortunately. But I do know of some products that help very much. I wash my face with Olay deep facial cleanser for oily/combination skin with witch hazel. You can find this at any drugstore, Wal Mart, etc. and it's reasonably priced. It has a very creamy lather and leaves the face clean but not tight and gross. I do a mask 2-3 times a week, usually a mineral clay mask to draw out impurities and tighten my pores. Whisked egg white masks are excellent for any skin type. I sometimes follow that up with an alcohol-free toner. (Burt's Bees and Neutrogena have good toners.) Now here comes the tricky part...what in the h*ll to moisturize with. I've went many times without moisturizer because I was so fed up with my face feeling greasy and shiny two minutes later. It's a necessary evil though, no matter how plentifully your face produces oil. The trick is to find a lotion that gives your skin the proper moisture but at the same time absorbs excess yuckiness. Right now I'm alternating between Mary Kay Oil Control Lotion 3 and Good Skin oil-free face lotion from Kohl's department store. Each has its pros and cons. The Mary Kay stuff makes my skin feel really nice and silky after I apply it and also keeps my face reasonably matte for up to a couple hours afterward (especially if I'm not wearing a lot of makeup). The drawback to this is that the oiliness will come back after a while AND it's about $20 a bottle. The Kohl's brand is nice because you only need a small amount of it to cover the entire face and neck and it's cheaper, around $12. The drawback...it doesn't control the oiliness nearly as much. I suggest shopping around until you find that lotion you can depend on. I'm a firm believer that it's all in the moisturizer.

Other tips: Always wear oil-free, non comedogenic makeup. Avoid using anything that contains talcum or mineral oil (clogs pores). Keep hair out of your face and make sure you wash it thoroughly by the scalp.

It sounds like you are using way too many products which is not good for your skin.

Try using Proactive 5 nights a week and then the other 2 use Clinique or Clean and Clear so your skin doesn't get too used to it.

Use the St. Ive's Apricot Scrub 1 - 2 times a week.

I use Proactiv and have found it to be very helpful. For mid day touch ups use oil blotting sheets. And use all oil-free products.

I have found that Oil of Olay oil-free face wash is good. It cleans out dirt and make-up and oil and all that good stuff. It's not good to use multiple products, it can just make your skin worse.
