Canker sores tend to occur because of stress, illness, weakened immune system, injury caused by such things as hot food, rough brushing of teeth, or dentures.

You can use some essentials oils to soothe the pain and increase healing time such as Melissa, sandalwood, melaleuca quienquenervia. Or you can mix sage withe either clove or lavender or sage with an essential oil blend produced by Young Living called thieves.

Golden seal root powder taken internally can also help as well as an immune system supportive supplement called ImmuPro also produced by Young Living.

If you choose to try essential oils in a therapeutic context, please make sure they are of therapeutic-grade. If you have difficulty finding them, feel free to contact me for further information.

If you have a canker sore, you should not eat hot or spicy foods, which can cause pain. Mild, over-the-counter mouth washes or salt water may help. There are over-the-counter medicines that soothe the painful area. These medicines are applied directly to the sore area of the mouth. To speed up healing, try mixing 1 part hydrogen peroxide and one part water and apply it to the canker sore with a cotton swab. Then dab a small amount of milk of magnesia on the canker 3 - 4 times a day. This also helps relieve discomfort

I always use powdered alum (you can find it at the grocery store in the spices).

Dampen the tip of a Qtip with some hydrogen peroxide and clean the area of the canker sore gently. Using the other end of the Qtip, moisten it with a little hydrogen peroxide, dip it in the powdered alum, and "paint" the canker sore with it. Allow it to dry before you close your mouth. Do this several times a day.

Before bed every night, rinse well with hydrogen peroxide.

Doesn't taste good, but works like a charm.

Great advice, especially from Classsy1, I must add that use of Lysine capsules, 3 to 4 3 times daily, stops the virus from continuing to replicate. Speeds the healing up & helps the pain within 24 hours for me.
