How do you retrieve a filter that was sucked up?

I'm assuming you are referring to an air condidioning unit. Disconnect the power, usually there is a local disconnect switch. Remove the fan panel, remove the filter, replace panel and filter.

Wire hanger hooked on the end if it is farther than that duct tape to a pole.
