The extract was in the back section of the book Wit'chFire by James Clemens but the page fell out and I can't now find it.

The James Clemens book was published by both Random House and Orbit, neither publisher lists a book with the title "Necromancer". Are you sure of your facts?

Could it be Douglas Clegg's "The Necromancer"? See info here:

Books called The Necromancer have been written by George WM Reynolds and by Douglas Clegg (and possibly others).

Or could it be The Neuromancer by William Gibson - more famous and thus more likely to be quoted?
