"Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they can not communicate; they can not communicate because they are separated." -- ML King, Jr.

It is natural for people to relate to those of like culture first, before learning about others who are different. People tend to like people they can relate to and share common interests. They tend to fear or avoid people they don't understand, especially those who they assume don't like them either.

Common social stereotypes and mutual misperceptions of people keep them divided in groups along racial, religious, or other cultural lines. As long as people remain separated from each other, they cannot learn from each other to overcome these biases. The avoidance or mistrust of one group by another is mutual.

If you want to overcome these separations between groups, all you can do is start with yourself and the people around you. Only by encouraging cross-interaction and honest sharing and communication can you help to overcome mistrust or misperceptions, or even hard feelings from racial conflicts of the past that deepen these biases.

That's such a general statement/question. I for one don't believe all white people hate other races. While there are people who don't like me because I'm black (a fact I've been reminded of on Yahoo Answers), they are not all white.

At the same time, I want to respect your question. It could be a matter of perspective. For some, it may feel like all white people hate them. I know there are days when I think that all white women think I'm going to attack them. I find myself taking extra steps to let them know that I'm not out to hurt them ( I keep my hands where they can see them, I walk louder so there's no way they can think that I'm sneaking up on them). Sometimes I'll even cross the street because contrary to what some might believe, having someone fear you is not a good thing.

To move around in the world, to prevent myself from falling into "victim space" about how hard it is to be black in America, I give myself a pep talk: "It's not about race" I say, "People will judge you based on who you are" I tell myself. "You have as much opportunity as anyone else" I convince myself. Then I come to Yahoo Answers and reality hits....like a ton of bricks.

That is just not 100% true. I am Caucasian & I don't dislike African Americans or Hispanic people. Generally speaking, I don't dislike any race. I may not understand their languages and cultures, but that does not mean I don't like them. In fact, I am quite intrigued by other cultures & am going to be learning the foreign languages French & Spanish. It is an individual thing, really. There is a Greek man who has a business in my town & I don't care for him one bit & not because he is Greek. Then there is another person in town who is just a good ole boy who I don't think too highly of; he is white.

I like people based on individual characteristics, none of which have any thing to do with a person's color. Next time you wonder why white people don't like hispanics or black people, look around and notice how much intermarriage goes on between white people and hispanics/blacks.

Who says this? That big ole blanket you are throwing over EVERY white person is a mistake. People are people. Being white or being black is just something which makes us all unique. So long as there are people like you SUGGESTING whites hate blacks then the racism war continues.

Everybody needs to chill out and enjoy the diversity in this country. Do not listen to racism! WE all live in this country and we all must learn to love each other and embrace all our differences. We should be living side by side and working together as friends. Some places are good like that. I personally have enjoyed the idea that we can all be diverse and LEARN something from it.

Don't repeat bad history.

Where do you live? On earth or on another planet? Your question should have been why do SOME white people not like other races?

There are many white people who get along with other races just fine..and then there are many in interracial relationships...and if they are truly a christian they will love everyone regardless of the race. Some may prefer not to intermarry but then there are many other races who choose to stay within their own race or culture as well. I myself am white...and have a black husband..and one son (mixed) married to a white woman, one son(mixed) with black woman...one daughter (mixed) married to black man. So I don't try to influence them to choose black or white or whatever..my dad remarried a Chinese woman..and my mom a white man...so its who you love not their color!

It is only a SMALL minority of white people that do not like white people. 90 percent of whites are accepting of other races, and want to learn about them. Not liking other races shows ignorance, I think.

Because the inferior races keep following white people because they want to live in a white society and enjoy all of the ensuing benefits of doing so. But they don't realize they ruin it in quick time.

I'm sorry, Sir, but I think you're generalizing on a very small minority of the white people and saying that all of us are like that.

But, then, you're probably not an American at all.

Have a nice day.
