You have to have a source for the gas, it should have a shutoff valve on it. Connect the flexible pipe to the gas valve and to the appliance. turn on the gas and check for leaks by using soap bubbles.

you will still have to have a professional gas or appliance company to inspect it. It can be dangerous. You do not want to blow the house up mate!
