Sorry to say some folks don't get the message and you have to be direct. "Gee we're really happy you came but we have to cleanup and than be to work early so let us say are goodbyes so we can get a little sleep."
Then start handing out the coats and open the door if necessary.
If they are offended you can always say gee I was really tired, or just tell them the truth. We like having you over but it is late.

I understand what you mean.
With my family, we continue sitting at the table to talk after the meal is finished. If your family does that as well, say "I hope everyone has enjoyed our Thanksgiving together, have a safe trip home" the second there is a lull in the conversation and then get up. You should make sure your husband is in on this as well so you two can get up at the same time for more emphasis.

Cut off the alcohol about 30-45 mins. before you want the party to end. Serve coffee. While they are drinking the coffee, start cleaning up. Most people get the hint.If they still don't get the hint, get their coats, and bring them into the room. Tell them you are sorry you have to cut the evening short, but you have a big day tomorrow. Don't sit down and engage in anymore conservation.Hand them their coats.HINT!!!

Give them a time frame when inviting them. Say dinner will be from 1-4 this year or whatever time is best for you. That would be the polite way. Me on the other hand would go to bed and leave them in the living room haha.

Just say that you hope they don't mind but you are exhausted and haven't felt well for the last hour or so and that you have to go to bed. Have your husband play it up a bit asking if you're okay just before he gets their coats. Hand them their coats saying that you're sorry to cut the evening short but you just have to rest...yada yada. They should get the message. If you have children give them a signal to go upstairs about 15 minutes before you put your plan into action so there is no one downstairs for them to visit with after you make your move to have them leave.

I have always found that the best way to get people out of your house is to come out of your bedroom in your nightclothes. If they don't get the hint by that time... then just say good night...and go to bed!
