I know those little paper masks don't help, but I was wondering if a Half Mask Respirators will protect my lungs from these harmful vapors. I love printmaking but I have a lung disorder and I need to stay extra safe. If anybody know about whether a Half Mask Respirators will work...please let me know.

This is not a home set up, it's for use in my school. I don't trust the safety measures.

Why don't you go to the OSHA web site, and research it?
You might also try contacting the American Lung Institute.
Then you have guidelines that you know for sure are safe!!

Assuming this is a home studio.....First up, you need to have a really well ventialted work space with good a vapor extraction system, i.e. exhaust fans with a water filter system in your cabinet. Respirator would be absolute must when preparing acid bath. When putting plate in bath, a paper mask should be sufficient because the exhaust fan should be already on in the cabinet. If working outside, make sure wind is at your back.
