Cerumen (ser-REW-men), the term for ear wax, can be orange, orange-brown, golden, golden-brown, brown and blackish-brown. The color depends on how long it's been siiting in the external ear canal. It changes color with oxidation, that is, exposure to air. There is no answer to your question. Just as there's no answer as to why the pigment in blood happens to be red. It is what it is.

Well the urban legend is that dumb jerks have yellow ear wax. i also heard that the even dumber ones have watermelon(or pineapple) candy smelling ear wax!
