If this boss is creating a hostile work environment, you have every right to report it to your boss's superiors and make a complaint with the EEOC. The boss's bosses won't want the EEOC contacted, if you are going to seriously pursue it, and they should do something about it.

Your being offended or "overly" sensitive does not enter in to it. Don't let those who criticise you get under your skin!

Check with the local state employment office what your rights are. If you quit you will have to prove that he does this. Maybe you can secretly tape his dirty language for evidence. \
I had a boss who was somewhat like that only he would take you in his office and close the door so the others didn't hear how he talked and yelled.
So, I kept a small tape recorder at work. Next time he called me on the carpet, I openly brought it with me, already turned on, and said "I'm sure you don't mind because I want to be able to go over your instructions later to be sure I understand every thing you say."
He was flustered and replied "Sure, ok, sounds like a good idea." After that no more intollerable language from him. He realized I could be recording him any time.

Use of unsavory words in a workplace is a violation of the employee's right to be treated properly. Thus, an employee if verbally abused could file a complaint against the superior for using foul language against him. Nevertheless, the penalty is usally light for this offense discouraging employees to refrain from filing a complainant. Maybe, the best move is to write an anonymous letter to the superior of your boss in order to conduct an investigation on this case to protect you as a subordinate.

He is creating a hostile work environment for you. And his supervisor is alowing this person to stay knowing he is a liability to the company.
If this is a large corporation, I would write a letter to the VP of human resources and let them know what is going on.
If it is a small company, I would play nice and find another job. That way you can still use this company as a reference.
If you really feel like standing up for your rights, bug his supervisors until you get fired, and then sue them.

mhohol0029, "Blue Steel and Lace" has told you everything you need to know, she is completely 100 % right and her information is completely proper. ALso, "The Shadow Knows" has suggested something good, but if you are at least in CA, you do NOT have the legal right to record someone without their knowledge, and if you do, this is not admissible in a court of law.

Chsel, thanks to people like you crime is possible. You are one of the many who purposely confuse FREEDOM OF SPEECH with the abuse thereof. You give more rights to one person performing a potentially criminal action than to the person on the receiving end. You make a mockery out of our Constitution.

Not a lot. I suggest you look for another job. If you want to sue for sexual harrassment you have to have abolute proof. You need witnesses willing to testify. It could be done but it is very difficult.

I heard of a thing called freedom of speech, now maybe you heard of it. Saying "F" isn't violating anyone unless it is used in a specific way like sexual harrassment on the employees. Now if you did something to "F" up my company I will cuss you out for it. Or if I say it on occassions, then I should have a right to say the "F" word. You want to quit, good for you. But don't go violating another person's right of speech. Just quit.
Ancio_80: Tell me who is he hurting by saying the "F" word please. Crime and bad language are two different things moron. Please clearfy exactly what are fore fathers meant by freedom of speech.
