You need to love the game by living and breathing basketball. If you don't have the skills already, shoot for next year. You need to devote lots of time in the gym with people who can teach you.

You cant just get good at anything overnight. You have to practice.
I've been playing basketball for 12 years now, and the only reason I'm good at it is because I've been playing for 12 years.

i know everybody has answered "practice"..and they're all right...
you have to commit yourself
if you really want this, you have to dedicate yourself
while u practice, do handling drills, shooting drills, conditioning drills..mix it up, so it's not routine-ish..if u know what i mean
from experience, be sure to always give 150% on court and off court...concentrate on ur game, and how to improve ur game as you collaborate with your teammates
but most importantly, have fun...
if u don't have fun, then what's the point?
best of luck!!

Practice, practice, practice!!!
Shoot a lot so you can get your muscle memory and have your shot be good.
Ask someone who is good at basketball to help you improve your shot, dribble, layup, etc.
Good luck!

well
practice b4 and after school in your gym.
thats what i do
and i have improved alot over my last 3 years of playing
extra running helps alot too...run some killers every day
its not gna be fun bt it will elp.
dont spend all your time shooting around...your majority of time in a game is running and defence...not shooting

That depends on what position you play.
Things you can do regardless would be conditioning; sprints and drills to increase foot speed. (like running up and down bleachers...not skipping steps, or jumping rope)

eat lots of turkey so you can grow tall. just kidding, there is not much time to improve. Just show up for try-outs well rested and ready to play your best.
