So have any of you seen a tatoo after 50 years? I did on my father and it looked sick. The lines were gone, it was faded and looked more like a bruise than anything else.
So this is ART. As art fades it looks like crap. Do we really need art all over our bodies? What is the reason for it anyway? attention? I know other ways to get attention and I am sure you can dream up ideas less destructive for your body. Have you seen the Africans in Africa who are in there 60's with tatoos? This is what yours will look like over time. Painful to remove (leaves scars) too. Why would you get a tatoo, please explain it to me?

Tattoo's are not for everyone and anyone thinking of getting one needs to put alot of thought process into what he or she is having put on their body. For me it was a form of expression and it took five years for me to decided what I wanted and where to put it and how it would look, and I am still please with it and the way it looks. I now have three, and don't have any regrets about any of them. They still look the same as when I first got them. It is the quality of ink that is used and the artist that is doing the work. After I decided to get any of them done, I found the right artist that I could trust and felt comfortable with him. My second tattoo took five hours to do, the shading and the colors are bright and it looks exactly like I wanted and still does. I have had it for 10 years and it looks as good today as when I first got it. Bottom line if your not sure, don't do it. I hope this will help you.

I got a tatoo because it was something I suddenly had an urge to do. Don't know why, as I had always been against having one for the reasons you have described. However, since I didn't get it until I was over 50, I really don't give a **** WHAT it will look like in another 50 years.

Tattoos are more than just frivolity. They go back really to the start of mankind... something permanent to mark your link to a group, passage into adulthood, or whatever the case may be.

Tattoos aren't always some photorealistic rendering of something. They can be symbols, letters... whatever. They're artistic for the one creating them, and they mean something to the one receiving them.

You mention the Africans... they don't seem to care that they sag. This gives you an indication that they didn't get the tattoo for asthetic purposes. Ever heard of the "Crocodile people?" How about the tribe in Africa that slices their faces and bodies with a sharp object, creating scars that, for them, is equated to beauty?

I don't have a tattoo, nor do I want one. I don't condemn anyone else that gets one, nor do I assume that they only reason they got one is to get attention. You're talking about something that goes back eons into human culture. It is much more than simple attention getting. It may look hideous to you when you see someone with a wilted, faded tattoo - but for them, they remember when and why they got it. Much different.

Because some of us like it, it's self expression without the words. And at the age of 60, I'm really not gonna give a shiit what my tattoos look like...I wear my ink proudly
