This article is intended to be directed toward spinless Europeans and NOT the Brave one's that have, unfortunately, caught a bad name for living on the same land-mass as these morally and intelligently weak individuals. This in particular is NOT directed toward Great Britain (our greatest ally despite the BBC)..

So my question...ah...how do you explain this cowardice and lack of conviction in a just and nobal cause: DEFEATING TERRORISM

I always knew it was, but it took a GERMAN (if you can imagine that..lol) to illustrate this FACT...This is the TRUEST thing you will ever read about the European's method of foreign/world policy.........All I can say is...Thank God for America...and the United Kingdom...(whom is far closer to America than she is Europe)...
(Commentary by Mathias Dapfner CEO, Axel Springer, AG)

A few days ago Henry Broder wrote in Weltam Sonntag, "Europe - your family name is appeasement." It's a phrase you can't get out of your head because it's so terribly true.

Appeasement cost millions of Jews and non-Jews their lives as England and France, allies at the time, negotiated and hesitated too long before they noticed that Hitler had to be fought, not bound to toothless agreements.

Appeasement legitimized and stabilized Communism in the Soviet Union, then East Germany, then all the rest of Eastern Europe where for decades, inhuman suppressive, murderous governments were glorified as the ideologically correct alternative to all other possibilities.

Appeasement crippled Europe when genocide ran rampant in Kosovo, and even though we had absolute proof of ongoing mass-murder, we Europeans debated and debated and debated, and were still debating when finally the Americans had to come from halfway around the world, into Europe yet again, and do our work for us.

Rather than protecting democracy in the Middle East, European appeasement, camouflaged behind the fuzzy word quidistance,"now countenances suicide bombings in Israel by fundamentalist Palestinians.

Appeasement generates a mentality that allows Europe to ignore nearly 500,000 victims of Saddam's torture and murder machinery and, motivated by the self-righteousness of the peace-movement, has the gall to issue bad grades to George Bush... Even as it is uncovered that the loudest critics of the American action in Iraq made illicit billions, no, TENS of billions, in the corrupt U.N. Oil-for-Food program. And now we are faced with a particularly grotesque form! of appeasement. How is Germany reacting to the escalating violence by Islamic fundamentalists in Holland and elsewhere? By suggesting that we really should have a "Muslim Holiday" in Germany?

I wish I were joking, but I am not. A substantial fraction of our (German) Government, and if the polls are to be believed, the German people, actually believe that creating an Official State "Muslim Holiday" will somehow spare us from the wrath of the fanatical Islamists. One cannot help but recall Britain's Neville Chamberlain waving the laughable treaty signed by Adolph Hitler, and declaring European "Peace in our time". What else has to happen before the European public and its political leadership get it? There is a sort of crusade underway, an especially perfidious crusade consisting of systematic attacks by fanatic Muslims, focused on civilians, directed against our free, open Western societies, and intent upon Western Civilization's utter destruction. It is a conflict that will most likely last longer than any of t he great military conflicts of the last century - a conflict conducted by an enemy that cannot be tamed by "tolerance" and "accommodation" but is actually spurred on by such gestures, which have proven to be, and will always be taken by the Islamists for signs of weakness.

Only two recent American Presidents had the courage needed for anti-appeasement: Reagan and Bush.

His American critics may quibble over the details, but we Europeans know the truth. We saw it first hand: Ronald Reagan ended the Cold War, freeing half of the German people from nearly 50 years of terror and virtual slavery. And Bush, supported only by the Social Democrat Blair, acting on moral conviction, recognized the danger in the Islamic War against democracy. His place in history will have to be evaluated after a number of years have passed. In the meantime, Europe sits back with charismatic self-confidence in the multicultural corner, instead of defending liberal society's values! and being an attractive center of power on the same playing field as the true great powers, America and China.

On the contrary - we Europeans present ourselves, in contrast to those arrogant Americans", as the World Champions of "tolerance", which even (Germany's Interior Minister) Otto Schily justifiably criticizes. Why? Because we're so moral? I fear it's more because we're so materialistic so devoid of a moral compass.

For his policies, Bush risks the fall of the dollar, huge amounts of additional national debt, and a massive and persistent burden on the American economy - because unlike almost all of Europe, Bush realizes what is at stake - literally everything.

While we criticize the "capitalistic robber barons" of America because they seem too sure of their priorities, we timidly defend our Social Welfare systems. Stay out of it! It could get expensive! We'd rather discuss reducing our 35-hour workweek or our dental cover! age, or our 4 weeks of paid vacation... Or listen to TV pastors preach about the need to "reach out to terrorists. To understand and forgive".

These days, Europe reminds me of an old woman who, with shaking hands, frantically hides her last pieces of jewelry when she notices a robber breaking into a neighbor's house.

Appeasement? Europe, thy name is Cowardice.

---God Bless America

America's view on bravery is, if your neighbour on your right gives you sh1t but he is too big then go to your smaller neighbour to your left and beat him up.
Iraq was never a threat to the USA and was never in cahoot's with Ben Laden but at present the body bag count is fast approaching that of Saddam's. Well done, only cowards bomb people from 10 miles up where you can't be seen.
You were sent home from Vietnam with your tail between your legs. MARK MY WORDS YOU WILL CRAWL OUT OF IRAQ WHEN YOU CAN'T FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED.
The difference is that we do put our will on the rest of the world or lock up people for years without a trial. Though Blair is taking lessons From Bush now.
Most Americans would not even find Iraq on a map.
As far as saving our butts in 2 world wars it must have taken some special bravery to come into the ring when the two fighters were on the ground after several years.

Humm, an opinion of one person. I of course don't agree with it at all, though I have always been a bit suspect over the ethical record of mainland Europe and Britain, however a lot of Europe does have a plan. We are of course always trying to make the best of any situation, so while outspoken critics of the US administration, our government still has significant shares in the effort to keep the peace in Afghanistan and training Iraqi police. Funny if Bush really thinks "everything" is at stake in Iraq- if he did think that way why didn't he at the start do everything to make the road gold-paved for the Iraqis, make a move not only to train police, but doctors, teachers, engineers, plummers and so on. I'm sure with 2 billion a week they could do a lot instead of just patrolling baghdad. Appeasment has never been a policy, however it is important to separate the political aspect of an extremist group- the methods which they use might be horrible and illegal, but they wouldn't exist if they didn't have a wide support base. It would be foolish to ignore the politics and just "kill insurgents". But I guess the US is doing just that.

Why are Americans so S**T Scared of everything ?. I was watching a news bulletin the other night that showed people queueing for food and clothes, i actually thought it was another African segment, no it was America !. a country that is spending millions trying to give Iraq something it does not want and has no conception off (democracy). I also have to point out that America supported (both financially and logistically) and encouraged Muslim fundamentalism in the first place in order to expel the Soviet Union from Afghanistan. Most democracies in the world were formed because there people wanted it (and fought for it) and not because it was forced on them.

.How do you appease terror when you create it . We in europe did create the symtoms for terror for all the plundering and colonisation we did down through the years and i mean every major european country england, france holland germany spain portugal all invaded countries around the world. The mistake they all made was when they used the natives of the different countries to betray their fellow country men and gave them national citisenship so when they departed or where kicked out all their citisens followed them home. So now you have large pressure groups in each country who still have connections to their home land so when they see their so called freinds putting the boot in to their homeland they react and whos to say they are wrong, morally they probally are but what has morals got do with it whe you are on the recieving end.Me im a european im certianlly not a coward for it takes a real person to reach out his hand.Im irish and i know a little about the boot.

Its just such a shame that an american had to say it....
and to reply to "sprouts mom":
Don't be so arrogant as to imply that the all high and mighty US of A is there to save the day whenever they feel bored of being alone. Where the hell do you think all you non-native americans came from? You just happen to be further away from the problems, so when you feel like it, you can hop accross, have your fun, and get out before you have to clean anything up.
It's attitudes like yours that fuel that fire of terroism.
...
..
and relax... count to 10.......... ahhhh..............sorry, had to release it somewhere!!

Maybe when America gets it's *** kicked a few more times, they will realise the error of it's ways. They are still immature.
I am British, and we don't particularly like either method, but if I had to choose, it would be Europe.
