Now this is an important and interesting ethical question. I'm a christian and I am for it.

My 12 year daughter has Cerebal Palsy and lives in a group home with other disabled children. She can't walk, talk, feed herself, take herself to the toilet (bathroom for all in the US) and probably never will be able to do those things we all take for granted.

I have just come from visiting her. And it breaks your heart to see her and the other children who are being denied a chance at life because of extreme right wing christians.

Stem cell research may offer her some hope of living something close to the life the rest of us will live. And before you opposers say there is no proof of that, yes I know that.

But then again what parents among you wouldn't do all you could to give your children the best shot at life?

Would you not lay down your own life for that of your children?

Depends on which one.

I am against embryonic because it destroys life to save one. There is no real research on the subject that shows any promise.

I am fine with adult stem cell and the others. If we can save lives, great. I lost my father to leukemia.

I am against the government funding stem cell research. Let private enterprise do it. I do not want my tax dollars going to much of anything. Taxes are bad enough. Every time the government does something, they screw it up.

BTW, the media has completely lied about the Republican position on this. The Michael J Fox add was a flat out lie on Steele's and Talent's positions.

I am for it. I would hate to cut off an avenue of research that may help curve so many illnesses in the world. I have seen the hope that this research has given so many people, (M.J.Fox) and would hate to stop it because it is not unanimously agreed upon by the masses. Nothing in this world can be agreed upon and it rarely stops us from doing anything. Hitler did crazy/inhumane research on people and yet we still use his research to save people today. I do not agree with it, but it is a fact of life. At least in this case people are not being harmed and the participants do not feel anything. It is done in a discreet and professional manner that respects all aspect of it purpose.

If you want a truly accurate answer, you should define of WHICH KIND of stem-cell research you speak. Keep in mind there are several types: Embryonic stem-cell research, cord blood-cell research, adult stem-cell research, etc...

Now to my answer: I support stem-cell research in general. However, I refuse to support federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research IN ITS CURRENT FORME. IF a way can be found to perform the research without destroying the embryo, I would fully support federal funding for that particular method as well... I'm not against saving lives, and I think advancements need to be made in this field, but I do not believe it ethical to destroy one innocent life to save another life.

I am 100 % for it. There are so many deadly afflictions that could be potentially cured by further stem cell research.

Stem cell research is not murder, as the bible thumping right would have you think.

The following site is the best I know for the facts on stem cell research:

I am absolutely for stem cell reaserch. My father has had two stem cell transplants and he is still here and healthy due to them! It's easy to say that stem cell research is unethical when you and your loved ones are healthy. In a time of need, you learn to really appreciate the miracles of modern science. Just look at Nancy Reagan; she became an advocate for stem cell reasearch when Ronald was diagnosed with Alzheimers!

Stem cell research is fine as long as taxpayers don't have to pay for it. The proven medical advances are with adult stem cells and this type research has investor funding.

The controversy is with obtaining embryonic stem cells which have not been proven useful. Embryonic stem cell research rationalizes killing the unborn for medical research. Many people who are against abortion are also against embryonic stem cell research.

I don't know of anyone that is against most stem cell research, the use and testing with adult and cord stem cells have alot of promise, It is the use of emboroic cells that kill life that cause the issues.
