Rather than take on a social justification of pantomime... not mime...

What about something like sitting in the park. You have lots of possibilities for activity, like:
--You stop by a water fountain which barely works... you try to cup your hand and get some water, but it doesn't work... you try the next fountain and it gushes
--while drying yourself off, you discover your shoe is untied. You prop your foot up on a bench and see a "wet paint" sign (even if we don't) and dread looking at the sole of your shoe... but no wet paint. You tear up the sign and sit.
---D'oh, it was the backrest on the bench that was just painted!
-- What have you got to lose, you stay to eat your lunch
--tearing the crusts off a sandwich to share with the birds
-- you feed the birds, but then run out of bread and they attack by pooping on you

...those are just some ideas

With no real offense meant, and certainly not to those who practice an archacic craft, but WHY does anyone think IT has any value?

IT depicts humor most often, but in a very abstract way, and any performance that has to be analyzed, as if it was "Charades" is, in my opinion, a waste of time.

I GET IT, that in some cultures, it's a popular form,,,But I'm baffled at those who express in that way, when so much more is available to a NON DEAF audience.

Steven Wolf

Again, with no offense, does anyone laugh anymore at someone,,,in an inane make up form, climbing an invisible wall, or pressing against an invisible box? Or blowing up an invisible balloon, only to have it explode in their face? Etc.

I think my favorite one is when the guy chops down a huge tree. Finally it falls and he keeps chopping. Finally he uses a knife to whittle a piece ... and walks away with a toothpick!

what's DDR? Hmmm, why not act out someone is undergoing open heart surgery? Bit too dramatic? Then maybe someone waiting at busstop for a bus that is really, really late....then it starts to rain, puddles form, cars drive by and splash you...
