Ah, something I know a little bit about. Get involved in community theatre or local theatre. Audition for everything you can to get experience. Make sure you create a resume of your roles, and save any reviews. Make sure you keep in contact with your directors as you might need their recommendations at some point. You also should get a head shot, if you are looking to do this professionally.
I would also visit a local talent agency in the city you live in if it is available.

I did alot of acting when I was younger. It all began in middle school, I audtioned for the school play and made it. Then I joined my local theater at the age of fifteen and performed regularly. I did not ever get into acting for TV or movies. However to do so you have to find out about audtions and go try out. I reccomend taking an acting class as well. There is no age limmit really, look at Dakota Fanning.

There is no age limit to acting. You just need to audition for shows in your area or take a local acting class. There are books about acting, but they are pretty dry. Acting is better learned by getting up on your feet and doing it.

join a theatre group, or school drama group. look for open auditions, go to them, its all a learning curve, it may take a long time to get to where you want but its worth it in the end.
