The first famous song was the classic "Rappers Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang in 1979. It was the first rap song to hit the Top 40 and was the first to go gold. Sugarhill came out of the up and coming scene in New York, and there were many in that early era, long befre the sound moved west, that set the bar and todays rappers all have to repect. Fatback, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Flash, Kurtis Blow, Afrika Bambaataa, and many others... Blondie's "Rapture" was not the first rap song as some might tell you, but with it's beat and rap "bridge" in the middle (influenced by Rappers Delight) it started a push for rap and hip-hop into mainstream radio.

Rappers Delight will STILL get people up in the clubs, and is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time! It was truly the "first famous rap song".

Yes the first rap song was Blondie's 'Rapture'. It was the first mainstream song that featured rap in it.

From what I know, Run-DMC and there song was "Tricky"
..might not have been the first song. but im pretty sure it was one of thr first rap videos.
