Something not everyone thinks about, but try writing a letter to your Governor asking for a pardon. It would also help if you knew anyone of any power.
Yes, you will need to have your stuff together and write well. But it is something to think about...

The first thing you should know is that Business(not all but most) get special/extra Money to hire a Convicted Felon.
I am not a Felon but i do have a Class 1 Misdemeanor, and My Brother is a 2 time Convicted Felon.
Most of the Business out there receive Federal Grant Issued Money when they Hire Felons. The Best thing to do would be, go to the Federal Rules and Guidelines for Owning a Business(there may be a section in there that tells you how to find an Employer that accepts these guidelines, try at your local Library, or even through the Better Business Bureau's Website). My brother has worked for Pepsi for over 3 yrs now and they recieve Federal Grant Money Yearly to keep him employed.
If worst comes to worst over 95% of all Employers who say they do a background check, DON'T. So don't put it on your Application/Resume.
Good Luck, the chance of a lifetime will come just be patient.

Why don't you try working with someone you know? Perhaps they can give you a break.
A friend of my niece was in the same situation, he started his own car detail business. He goes to different car dealerships detailing used cars and has a pretty good business. He doesn't have to answer the felony question to anyone.
But you may also want to start a network marketing business. Some have minimal start up costs and you determine your paycheck based on the hours you want to put into the business.
There are plenty business' out there you can start and then you'd be your own boss.
Good luck.

You're in a tough situation. How long ago has it been since you were convicted? The best advice I can give is go to either your p.o. or the unemployment office. They may know of a company that is willing to give you a job until you've been able to put a few years between your conviction, and get a better job. Also if you can try to get some type of extra education. It will make future employers feel that you put that part of your life in the past.

Be honest, there are people out there, including me, that have no problem hiring an ex con as long as they are honest and up front. Then become the perfect employee, always on time, etc. People forgive mistakes as long as you show you are a new man.
Get any job you can find- McDonalds, Wal Mart, doesn't matter, all you are out to prove is that the next guy should hire you. Need to start somewhere!

if you learned a trade in jail/prison you should try to get a job dealing with the knowledge you learned. or if you didnt go to jail/prison then you should try to get a job that is kind of a high demand but no one wants to work there, like at a crisis center, or working at a nursing home, depending on what you did is what they usually look at. if this doesnt help then sorry but i wish the best of luck for u.
