There is party scene and a funeral scene. Anyone have some tips and advice for what to do and what not to do?

Obviously I'm not supposed to look at the camera, I know that much.

If you have tips even just explaining how not to look at the camera, that would help.

This is so cool!

You can give me websites if you like, anything that'll help me.
I'm not an actor, I don't plan to be, and I have no acting or drama experience.

Bring a couple of changes of clothes. You probably wont need them, but the time you dont, the wardrobe dept will decide they dont like what you are wearing.

Turn off your mobile phone. Dont just turn it to silent.

Follow direction from assistant director.

If you are working with people who have done it before, get them to help you.

Dont approach the stars or try to take photos.

Mime talking to other extras. During rehearsals, you can whisper a conversation which will give you an idea of what to pretend to say.

Dont knock over any scenery or props.

You will have to film the same scene a number of times from different camera angles. Try to match the action in each shot. Be aware of your starting position and whether you start on 'and', 'action' or a couple of beats after 'action'. Get a few ideas of where you should be at different points in the dialogue in case they film only part of the scene in later takes.

React to what is happening in the scene. If the main actors are in a fight, look at them. If they are just talking quietly, ignore them. Unless told otherwise, do what you would do in real life.

Your eyes can be in the general direction of the camera, but dont focus on it. In both senses of the expression. If its in the background, focus on something in the foreground and vice versa. Concentrate on the action, or one of your fellow extras and you will soon forget about the camera.

Do nothing to draw attention to yourself. Blend into the crowd. Are you to engage in conversation with someone at the party? Really listen carefully to them.

P.S. Look thoughtful and sober at the funeral scene, and not too happy at the party.

If there's an assistant director (1st AD) there he or she will tell you what they want you to do. The key is not to stand out too much. You won't have to act too much, if at all. Have fun and be prepared to wait around...alot!.
