the miles are what worries me

Why are you worried about the mileage? It's not high.
18K divided by 6 yrs = 3000 mi. per year.
I put twice that on my bike in 6 months. (It was a slow season)
I don't know if the price is good or not, I wasn't looking at V-Stars.
Ask for the maintenance history. If the oil was changed regularly, it should be ok. Yamaha makes some good engines.

As long as the oil has been changed, and the bike has been taken care of, it shouldn't be a problem, may be priced a little high though, run it through NADA.com

What miles? My XS11 had 110,000 when I sold it and still ran great.
That's not a mini bike engine.

I wouldn't pay that much for that bike with that many miles on it.
