Why is a smile contagious?

I love walking down the street and looking up to meet someones eyes. They smile, and in a moment of surprise, I don't know what else to do but smile back.

To coin a phase, 'Monkey see```monkey do. Its a lovely thing when its a good thing. Smiling is warm and we love it!!!

They are are contagious, in fact I tend to do it often.Even when I'm mad.
