The Dems pretty much voted in the right for illegal immigrants to receive social services - Louisiana's own Mary Landruea - sorry for the spelling. I totally disagree that they are but .....whatcha gonna do? I voted - my guys didn't win.
As for NOLA - I live down here. The same people that were supported by the government are still being supported by the government. FEMA got overwhelmed and some people that truly needed the help and support of the government got lost in the mix. It's sad - but it happens. The folks that could rebuild -- are rebuilding. Let's also keep in mind that a lot of the homes that were destroyed were probably bought in the 50K to 60K range - you can't rebuild for that. A lot of the housing that was available for the folks on welfare can't be rebuilt for the amount of insurance the building owners had - and in MOST cases the insurance companies are declining the claims.

I would suspect that the reason so many of the Katrina victims are still displaced is because many of them are black, poor, and undereducated. This seems to qualify as some type of crime in the minds of the big-mouthed Conservatives in our country.

Where are this nebulous "they" receiving Welfare"? Certainly not in a socially liberal city like New York--so, I doubt this "they" are receiving welfare elsewhere. It seems just to be a stereotype conjured up to elicit anger and hatred.

I hear ya loud and clear !!!!
and our men and women who fight for our country and yet when they come back home we treat them like crap.
Their families are here losing their homes, can't afford to fly their soldiers home when they do get leave and when they come home all banged up, we don't take of them then either.
Something has gone terribly wrong here.
