My car had trouble starting. It overheats. White smoke comes from muffler and my antifreeze runs out w/ no leak. It is being burned I am guessing. I am guessing this a blown head gasket. If it isn't what do you think it is. It is a 96 4 cylinder Honda Accord LX. What are the cost estimates is my main question here???????

Yea you probably have a blown head gasket.
The price will vary from place to place, and if you get a reconditioned head or a new one.

anywhere from 750.00 up would be a start.

Suggestion Bring to a Import Mechanic Preferably a ASE shop,

Blown Head Gasket Cost

It will depend on how hot you warmed up your motor.

If your head is still good it will only need to be resurfaced and then put back on with a new gasket. You may be able to find a backyard mechanic to do this for $700.00.

However if you overheated the engine to the point where it cracked your head....then it will cost a lot more. A machine shop will have to repair the head, install new valve guides and more. Or worse you may have to buy a new head or find another one.
If this is the case...It may cost around $1800.00. Make sure you tell the mechanic that you want to see the head and have him point out the crack or damage. Mechanics should be ASE Certified and you can also run a background check with DCCA to find out if the mechanic has had trouble with customers in the past. Good Luck!

The symptoms you are having are definitely classic signs of a blown head gasket. Now as far as the cost, parts plus labor including having the head reworked at a machine shop, you would be looking somewhere around $1000 - $1200 That is average cost, I hope you can get a lesser estimate.

Don't. The engine is almost sure to be toasted 12 different ways. Stay away unless you're willing tp spring for a new one.
