I am not sure why you need the system speaker on, it is usually automatic, but is not used for effects, music or anything like that. Right click on My computer. Go the the hardware manager tab of System Properties. Click on device manager. System speaker is in the list under system devices. Double click on system speaker. In the device usage box, there is a setting for enable or disable. Unless, of course, you are really talking about external speakers?

I have window xp and I have the speakers plugged into the back of the computer. I have a volume/turn on off button on the speaker. My computer is an emachine.

well near the start logo at the bottom left go to the bottom right where u see like tons of other little icons and click the arrow out and u will see like a little speaker and u should click that and a windo will pop up and click the bar farthest to the left up on high.. it should work or just turn up ur speakers..
