When people say things like 'They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away' or 'They say Spain's a great place to holiday' or 'They say alcohol is bad for you'. Who is this 'they' they refer to? Where do they live and can I be one of them?

It's something you have heard that you can't remember where the info came from. There is quite a bit of bad info out there that's why 'they' is not a reliable resource. They is usually the common view of the uninformed person.
