It varies with each back story re-edit, Most often it is simply a random street criminal with no name or constant look(each artist can adjust as needed to suit their personal tastes) Joe Chill is the name used in Batman Begins, and as others have noted some comics, but a name like Joe Chill sounds like a street name, so it is likely not his real name. So far as I know 1989's Batman movie is the only source for the 'Young Joker as their Killer' idea, and that was Burton's way of wrapping his film up tight. I am of the school he should be a random street thug as well, in that, Human nature would allow Batman to bring that specific individual to justice, and then rest on that fact, only reacting to major crimes and 'Gimmick Criminals'.

By making the killer anonymous it prevents Batman from ever really catching him, forcing Batman to take out every criminal he finds, not just the ones the Cops can't get or those who taunt him directly.

Joe Chill was the one who killed Batman's parents according to some continuities of the Batman mythos. However, I'm in the camp that believes the mugger who shut the Waynes should remain as such... just a faceless mugger who should never be introduced into the Batman universe. In my opinion, introducing the man who killed Batman's parents would only take away from the power of Batman's mission. You just shouldn't humanize or give a face to the boogeyman of the Batman legend.

The Purpose of Batman begins was to start with a clean slate, therefore we can ignore the previous Batman Movies, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman and Robin. To answer your question the comics are the only true source for Batmans history, It was a small time hood named Joe Chill

in current comic continuity After the evnets of Infinite Crisis, Joe Chill is once again the murder or Bruce Waynes Parents. This occured in Batman Year 2 I beleive and in that story Joe Chill was caught and Batman continued his quest for vengence. Sometime after it was written the story was said to no longer be in continuity. However it is now speicially been refrenced as being part of Batman's history that the killer of his parents was caught. This would lead to the natural assumtption that the killer is in fact once again Joe Chill.

Don't go by that horrible Tim Burton version.

Tim "I have never read a comic book in my life" Burton doesn't know squat about the Dark Knight, and just threw the Joker in there even though it was just an ordinary mugger who killed Bruce Wayne's parents.

relies upon on who's continuity you prefer to soak up because of the fact rather the answer. in the movies it became the only that grew to alter into the Joker, who became in the alley and killed his mom and dad.. as some distance because of the fact the comedian the guy in the alley became left unnamed, i think of, if no longer I only never observed the killer named. Liking or following Batman does not make everyone a geek :P. i like what i like lol.

The Joker? Joe Chill killed his parents. What was all that "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight" thing all about?
