OK, this is random! Is Sartre's existence real to you? Is your existence real to you? only i can judge myself?- Depending on your interpretation of the testaments, this was written long before Sartre, just not so easy to follow.- Could there be a collective "I"? Dont explain "I", explain the existance of "I".

With a wrinkled forehead I give you a glance.
and wonder if perhaps by chance.
You are asking "I" for a dance.
And as you look back more perplexed than "I"
"I" and we ask ourselves why?

Sartre's existence is realism in its most primal form.

Existence preceeds Essence. Therefore I must know that I exist. If you know of your qualities, then you must concur that your the existence of the Self is real. The fact that the Other also recognizes you as a being is also gratification to existence of the self.

Plato would disagree. Using his Forms, he would say that the Self can never be fully known because it can touched, tasted, smelt, and felt.

Aristotle would say that the Self is constantly changing, but has a recognizable form.

On Judgement:

You can, and do judge your actions, everytime you make them. One can only hope that you only follow through with actions that you judge to be morally good, under the reflection of Kant.

Unfortunately, authority also has the right to judge you too on your actions. Crime and punishment has a deep rooted ethhical background that is much to vast to be breached in this response.

On the collective "i":

The collective 'I' is very metaphysical. There are things floating around right now that connect everything into one. They are called nuetrino's, and they exist everywhere, all at one time. I cannot know where my fingers end and the keyboard begins beacuse they are connected. I think that the existentialist movie "I heart huckabee's" demonstrated this best visually. Watch it!

As for your allusion to the testaments, I am not well enough versed in them to give a conclusion. Hopefully someone else will be able to answer that for you.

Cheers!

I detect a hint of solipsism, here. Neurology can not yet explain " I ", so I think I will wait for the realistic and scientific findings to come. Have fun in existentialist world.

well as rene decartes explained 'i', it only be fitting that jean paul sartre, in stark contrast, coined the existence of 'i' so here it is goes. the significance of 'I', according to him is often linked with the theme of meaninglessness and why things are deemed as being nothing- hence his book being and nothingness- which has no bearing and so 'I', from a existentialist perspective, literatelly refers to existence of being, of individual choice and freedom, of not being confined or restricted towards certain boundaries that prevent us from making the types of choices and decisions in our lives
