Salt is used for protection as well as purification. Depending on your spell or ritual is how it's used.
Sea salt is best & table salt can be used as a subsititue.

Salt is used for protection in spells. Although it is not a good protection ingredient in can be used for simple spells, it also represents good. Lavander and thyme i think can also be used as protections

If you don't know what salt means, then maybe you shouldn't be using it. One of the reason it works is because of the symbolism behind it.
