They run on their wheels, eat and drink just fine, and then they get sick and die. I buy good hamster food, give them plenty of water, chew sticks, treats, and they have nice clean cages with wheels and other items to occupy themselves. I also give them each plenty of attention and love. I'm getting so heartbroken. I've had two litters. I've given away five of the babies and only one of them is living. I currently have two but noticed tonight that one is sick. I have four new babies that are three weeks old and I'm wondering if it's possible that my mom and dad are passing on some sort of genetic thing. It's so weird though, as all of the babies are healthy, happy, and full of energy up until they die, usually with in a day of acting sick. I can assume that it is not due to bad water or something like that as my mom and dad have yet to get sick. Can you please advise me as to what possibly is going on. I can't emotionally take much more of this. Thank you. Dee

Hmm... I'll ponder this and get back to you. I've had many hamsters, but recently moved on to rabbits. But from what I'm thinking now, I have a couple of questions.
1. You know hamsters only like 2 years, right? (Obviously since you're having litters but whatever)
2. Are you cleaning out their cage regularly?
3. What kind of bedding do you use? I mean what type of wood. Some types of wood cause respiratory illness.
4. Are you sure the fruits/veggies you're giving them are not poisonous to them?
5. Do you actually give them chews from the pet store, or are you taking branches/leaves from outdoors? If so, make sure these aren;t coming near a road, and aren't sprayed with fertilizer.
6. Their tale... is it wet? Do they have diareaah (sp?)? They could have pretty much the worst disease for hamsters, wet tail.
Maybe, if this keeps percisting, you should see a vet. Though pricy, it might save alot of heart break.
You can email me, though I'm not sure if you're able to see my email adress. I'd prefer not to post it here, though I can if you want.
Good, good, good luck. I'll pray for you! (sorry if this is against the rules, I didn't mean to offend anyone)

in case you may, pass all the way down to a puppy save and %. up a spray bottle called 'sparkling Cage', that's a secure option to different cleaners that would have unstable aspects. greater possibly nonetheless, is it very chilly at your place? Hamsters can pass into hibernation, this is often no longer stable on their bodies. pass him to a miles less drafty part of the residing house, or a hotter place. Drape a towel over a million/2 the cage to maintain one end hotter, and supply a rather good variety of loo tissue for him to make heat bedding. it would additionally be previous age of direction, yet you may never be too careful.

Check the webs below, might find something there. I lost 3 guinea pigs last year because of the arsonic level was to high. What bedding are you using? Cedar is highly toxic.
