I'm hearing a slight grinding noise from the rear and my break light is going on, I just had new pads put on the front. I've heard that you almost never need new pads on the rear, Is this true and is it pretty much the same procedure to do the back as it is the front?

I am not don't know the procedure for putting rear brake pads on, but I do know that all break pads wear out and have to be replaced eventually it doesn't matter if they are in the front or back. It is just a matter of wear and time. Sorry but you are going to have to take it to a mechanic.

Not knowing what were working on. 60% stopping is front and 40% rear most rear wheel drive cars. Modern front wheel drive cars wear out brakes differently almost the same front to rear. Not at all uncommon to need rear brakes shortly after replacing the fronts. The procedure might require special tools to compress the rear piston on the caliper in the rear.

You do need to change your rear brake pads. If you are hearing a grinding noise in the rear brakes, get them checked now. I started to hear that noise from my truck's rear brakes about 2 years ago. By the time I started to hear grinding, one of the brake drums had been damaged beyond repair.

i own a repair shop, and who ever told you that evidently don't know much about vehicles at all ,yes they do wear out, believe me i know ,,if it has rear wheel disc on it its about the same procedure, but the calipers turn in,and don't press in on all rear wheel disc brake cars, but if it has rear wheel drum brakes there easier to put on,and easier to adjust, also but who ever told you they never did wear out was very wrong, usually you,ll wear two sets of fronts out for every one set of rear ones, but you need to have it done if you can hear it ,because the rear ones are more expensive to work on,and the procedure isn't the same,,have them checked to see what all you need ,and be safe about it OK,,good luck,i hope this help,s,and have a happy thanksgiving.

Yes you need back brakes and you should replace them. if you have disc brakes on the back then you should replace them when you do the fronts but if you have drums on the back then you should replace them ever other time you put new front brakes on.

hey let me know if you're in the mood to purchase real estate ;)

any part on a car can go tango. anyone who tells you there is anything that doesnt get replaced knows less than what you did before. any noise that 'pops up' is something that wasnt working the way it was before and dropping in at a tuffy or something and asking questions is free. diagnostic checks cost $20

yes you dont replace rear brakes as often as you do fronts, but you do have to replace 'em. if you have rear drum brakes its way different than disc's, personally i think its more complex, you havemore springs and stuff to deal with..

you do need back pads, not as often as the front but you do need to change back pads, if you are hearing metal dgrinding, do it as ap as you are down to the warning level and will damage the rotors if you keep it up
