Death can and does happen without aging. However, the natural order of things provides for:
1. birth (the beginning of life)
2. lifespan (the length of life)
3. death (the end of life)
Normally aging is the process which results as biological systems encounter various environmental factors which cause them to incur damage.
This damage is not usually something that the eye can detect but occurs slowly over time and manifests itself by a slow process of cross linking in the DNA which results in minute errors of repair called aging.
If you can avoid the things which damage your DNA then you will age less and look younger in the casket.
Personally, I have missed the chance to live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse. Therefore I'll be in my final repose some semblance of the aged bald old man I am right now.
It's just the circle of life.

Ageing is multifactorial. There may be a number of reasons for this.Gerontologists have studied this from various angles and various cellular and molecular levels.Ageing stems from deranged metabolism where catabolic activities score over anabolic activities.Enzymatic activities are slowed down, there is an accumulation of free radicals, the damages to DNA are on the rise due continual exposure to lights of shorter wavelength.Evironmental pollutants have an effect on the cellular machinery. Agieng can be monitored at various levels. You might even see the shortening of the length of the telomeres.

Believe it or, your DNA has everything to do with aging. Our DNA basically gives us a certain amount of time to live. Of course we can fine tune this with good health, not damaging our bodies, etc. There are several components involved in aging, particularly something called telomeres, which are little "extentions" of DNA at the ends of chromosomes.
These telomeres play large roles in the cell cycle. Basically if these telomeres become too short, it increases the speed of the cell cycles (and hence aging). Telomeres that are TOO long are strongly connected to cell proliferation (read as cancer).
Don't know if this what you are asking, just wanted to shed a little light on aging. If you have some time, look up "progeria" on wikipedia.

Aging is the result of free radicals attacking your cells as well as telomere shortening and other effects. Telomeres are long repeating sequences of DNA at the ends of your chromosomes that protect the ends of the chromosomes from fraying and also sticking together. They are like the plastic protectors on the end of your shoe laces. They also are there as safeguards, preventing the loss of actual coding material when the cell divides. Every time your cells divide the enzyme that copies your DNA (DNA Polymerase) misses some of the bases which make up your chromosomes. This leads to the gradual shortening of the telomeres. Once the telomeres are gone (after hundreds of thousands of divisions), DNA Polymerase starts missing parts of your actual chromosomes which code for vital components of your body. It is thought that once this happens, your body can no longer function properly and you die of old age.

As the human body grows and matures, all of the funtions and organs are used continuously every day. This continuous use causes the body to wear away just like something else would if you continue using it. It becomes old and used. It's the same with the human body. The body comes to a point where one vital or all of the functions can't function and just stop-death.

Because only when we age, our organs age, and so does our body, so obviously aging is required before NATURAL DEATH.
