Precisely because it IS inevitable.
Life can suck, can be unfair, can seem to be worse than death.
But there is always hope- whether you can feel it now, or not. Who can say what the future holds? You control your future. Don't destroy your options, your chances, by giving in.
Another thing. USE your depression, make it a tool like I have. Write poetry, stories, music... play music, add feeling so deep that most people don't even know what they're hearing.
One day at a time. Crawl forward. Walk.

One of the beauties of life [and yes it can be very dark too], is that while some things are inevitable, there are always surprises. Even big ones. Things that you never anticipate, people that make things so much different. I was suicidal for awhile as a teen, and I have battled depression for most of life. I wouldn't trade it now, if could. Even though my daughter is just recovering from a diabetic shock no one knew about, I am *so* glad to have her. If I had ended it then, she would be with some other mother. Even though I can't wait to someday to see my miscarried baby, I don't want to die today. Mostly I get more depressed the more focused on myself I am. I am rebuilding my life from a separation, and have been to h**l and back since, I am looking forward to new possibilities, new paths opening up. Pain brought the birth. It got darkest right before I blinked in the new light. I am not sure what is around the corner, and that is good.

There is no point. But that doesn't mean you have to die right away.
Why are you so depressed? It's not like you're going to live forever!
Enjoy this short life. Find something that's interesting to you and explore that. You can still learn a whole bunch of stuff and still have fun in life. And it's a good thing it's not all fun cause then you'd get bored. Alternate work and fun. Find a purpose. Do activities that are entertaining, hang out with friends, etc. Whatever you like. If you have problems, don't hide them, work at them! That's the only way you'll ever get through.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

You asked, "why prolong the inevitable?"
Just what did you think you were going to get? It sounds like you actually think you have seen it all and have nothing left to get. I hope this sounds positive as I mean it that way.
For me life is always interesting because life always has surprises in it. You never know what is around the next corner. If you think you know what is around the next corner, perhaps you need to try looking around different types of corners.
Another thing that helps is when you try to emphasize the social aspect of your humanity and get involved in caring for others. Because we are social animals, no human can ever achieve any useful meaning or any real satisfaction in their life if they they are only concerned about how they feel and are not concerned about others.
Hope this helps.

The point of life is figured out along the way. You should not second guess Gods' plans to have YOU here alive. Everything in life comes together in time and to remember that ALL problems are temporary, simply blips in a larger plan. Look to add to the positives that life has. Wake up and take on the world. It's right in front of you and the best thing you can do is to make life your platter. Make it better for everyone by contributing to it by being here. You are here by Gods' will!

Providing any answer to that question...at least one that appears to make sense... converts you suddenly in the next (not necessarily great) philosopher. The point is that a lot of philosophy is about daring to think about the difficult questions and the resulting possibilities. BUT, your question seems to be much more about the state of depressive anguish in which you find yourself. If severely depressed, see a mental health professional (I've been there myself) pronto. Once your depression clears somewhat, you might want to, with some patience and good books, learn a little about the life-affirming philosophy of Nietzche.

Nevermind the Inevitable...perhaps we are all One Vegetable...I think the Buddhists(?) say "all life is sorrow".
The point of life is to bring happiness to others.aaaWhat goes around comes around. Also we're here to develop our souls to the point that they can reach the next dimension,level,heaven,etc...it doesn't matter if that's not the right view.If there is nothing beyond this life you still owe it to yourself to live and try to bring happiness to yourself& others.
Get yourself a dog that catches frisbees.Go to a nightclub full of drunken college kids.Treat yourself to an escort service...

Well... The point of life is not a simple question to answer but I will give you my take on it. Life is about setting goals and working to reach them even if you don't reach them you should have alot of fun trying.
