I'd say that Aguirre The Wrath of God (Aguirre der Zorn gottes1972) directed by Werner Herzog is much more in the vein of what is realistic for me.
Another one that comes to mind is Ivanovo destsvo (1962) a russian film by master film maker Andrei Tarkovski.
Even the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre falls into the place.
Scarface by Brian De Palma fits in here too.. I could go on for a while!
