The first thing you wanna do is copy onto disk all of your important files. Then use the original system disks that came with your computer, place them in your CD drive and it walk you through reformatting and reinstalling your operating system

1.start your Pc(hope you are using XP)
2.press f8
3.put in your XP CD &select the first boot device as Cd-ROM
4.computer will automatically restart
5.Select new installation
6.find an option delete partition at the at the bottom(think pressing "d" will do that)
7.once deleted it will show C: as your unallocated portion.
8.select that portion for your new installation
9.it will format C: & install a fresh XP

Make sure you set your PC to "Boot to CD/DVD" so that it will boot your Windows XP install disk. From there it will ask you questions about re-formatting/re-partitioning your drive.
