Depends on the woman's personality as to how they interpret 'curvy.' Some might consider it flattering ('Oooh, someone's paying attention to me =)), while others might be a bit taken aback (Oh no! Someone's looking at me! =()...
But let's just say that the safe thing to do is not say it... One reason could be that they think if someone calls them curvy, they're fat, but there are other reasons why they might be taken aback...
Again, depends on the woman.

Ack! Okay, this is a sensitive topic, so I'll approach it as best as I can. Many women pride themselves on being curvy (myself included), so I would in no way say that calling someone "curvy" is a "nice" way to tell them they're "fat." Why anyone would need to tell someone that anyway is beyond me. In a society where super-thin women are considered to be the choice specimen, women of all body types are joining together to promote the idea that every woman is different, and every woman is beautiful. So, in answer to your question: no. Curves are an object of pride, not a cover-up.

Curvy, to me, is a compliment! Let's face it ladies, it you are fat (and I don't mean you wear a size 10 either..lol..) you pretty much know it...but is all in how you carry yourself and how you feel about your body. Fat can be such an ugly word....but if you can accept what you are, and be comfortable in your own skin, then that takes the "power" away from the word fat. I've been a size 8 and a size 22..lol...am now an 16/18 and feel less "fat" than I did when I was a size 8!
Anyway...fat is a state of mind....curvy is a wonderful compliment if the comment is made by someone who doesn't substitute the word curvy as a euphemism for fat.
By the way guys....you know...once you go fat, you never go back! ;-)

it's nicer than saying: "Holy ****!, you could sell advertising space on the seat of your britches!" or "Jeez...do your thighs have their own zip code?" or "Do you ever knock over your wine glass with those gargantuan yabbos of yours?"
Seriously though, a woman doesn't have to be fat to be curvy, but she has to have some fat on her body. Women are supposed to have a higher percentage of their total weight in fat than a man does, it's natural and normal. About the only women that DON'T have curves are bags of bones or overly-athletic types that have so little body fat that their natural hormonal functions are all fouled up. Unfortunately, a lot of those in the media, and the fashion industry seem determined to make nearly emaciated women with silicone-stuffed lips the feminine ideal.

woman have different opinions on that issue, me personally, i would take that as a very sweet compliment since I'm very happy about my apperance and am comfortable with my body. but stating that to someone who obviously does not work out or keep herself on a sushi diet, well you might be overdoing it. Plus there are woman who might like that statement no matter if their fat or just a little too much curve around the edges, everyones different. Good luck.

Not always, some guys really like curves. Curves are cool. Some girls have curves and are not fa i.e Jennifer Lopez, Marilyn Monroe, and then you have plus size models who are just the embodiment of goddesses. Who said that beauty came in a size O?

Not necessarily. One can be a bit buxom without being fat. It means that you are shapely and large busted, sometimes with larger hips, but a nipped in waist. The woman is not rail thin. Very thin women have few curves; so no, I would not say it means that a woman is fat. Sometimes it can, however.

no, because people call beyonce, jlo, and anna nicole (now, not 2 years ago) curvy and they're not fat. I think it more means voluptuous.
But I just asked my boyfriend and he said he thinks its an insult. so i guess its all subjective.

Thin women don't have curves...they have angles. Real women have curves. But what you say may also be possible...it depends on who's saying it and why.

"Curvy" back when I was growing up meant a nice female figure - not flat and not fat.
